About Twin Lakes
Twin Lakes grew up around two lakes, Lake Mary and Lake Elizabeth, that hold nearly 1,000 acres of water along the Illinois line, and Lake Elizabeth reaches across the border. Vacationers came for the resorts, like the Lake House with its tower, boathouse and long pier seen on a 1912 postcard, and in winter crews cut ice from the lakes for iceboxes. The village was incorporated in 1937, and many homes are still used as summer places. Since the 1970s the Aquanuts water ski team has put on free shows at Lance Park twice a week all summer, with ballet lines and four-tier pyramids, and in 2026 they won their seventh national title. Families also come for Libertyfest's parade and fireworks in July and the tree lighting on Main Street after Thanksgiving.
