About Prospect Park

Prospect Park is a hilly neighborhood in southeast Minneapolis, between the University of Minnesota and the river bluffs. Land dealer Louis Menage bought much of the land in 1878 and had it platted in 1884, but homes went up in earnest only after a streetcar line opened on University Avenue in 1890, so its curving streets are lined with Queen Anne and Colonial Revival houses. On top of Tower Hill stands the 1913 water tower people call the Witch's Hat, one of the highest spots in the Twin Cities, and nearby is a 1934 brick house by Frank Lloyd Wright. Neighbors here started one of the oldest neighborhood groups in the city, and they still gather for a bonfire at Fire & Ice each winter and the Pratt Ice Cream Social each June.
