About Roberts
Roberts took its name in 1873 from John Bannister Gibson Roberts, chief engineer of the West Wisconsin Railroad, and a post office has carried the name since 1884. The village sits along Interstate 94, U.S. Highway 12 and Highway 65 on the outer edge of the Twin Cities area, and it has grown fast, from 969 people in 2000 to 1,919 in 2020. Its library is named for Hazel Mackin, a hometown teacher who taught first graders here for 35 years and kept a little library at the back of her classroom. Today families come to the library for story time, Lego Club and pumpkin painting, and the volunteer Roberts-Warren Fire Department has served the village and nearby townships since 1949.
