About Rochester
Rochester was settled by five farm families from Rochester, Vermont, who named their new home after the town they had left. They cut roads and built farms in thick woods and open prairie along the Fox River, and some of their early homes still stand, like the Henry Russell House from 1850. The village was incorporated in 1912 and joined with the Town of Rochester in 2008. Rochester has held a Memorial Day observance every year since 1867, one of the oldest in the country. Today families fish and paddle the Fox River, walk the dog park and trails at Case Eagle Park, and visit the library and shops on the one-block downtown.
