About St. Peter

St. Peter began in 1853 when Captain William Dodd claimed land on a bend of the Minnesota River and first called it Rock Bend. It was renamed St. Peter in 1855. Nearby Traverse des Sioux, where the 1851 treaty was signed, is part of the story, and five people from the town were elected governor. Today it is the home of Gustavus Adolphus College, an arts center, a historical society and two breweries, with paddling on the river and bike paths through town.
