About Standish-Ericsson

Standish-Ericsson is really two neighborhoods that share one neighborhood group, and signs at the edges welcome you to 'Standish-Ericsson'. Standish, named for Captain Miles Standish, runs from 36th Street down to 42nd Street between Cedar and Hiawatha avenues, and Ericsson continues south to Minnehaha Parkway. Ericsson holds Lake Hiawatha, once a marsh called Rice Lake; the park board bought it in 1922, named it Lake Hiawatha in 1924, and opened a golf course beside it in 1934. Minnehaha Creek flows through the lake on its way to Minnehaha Falls. Roosevelt High School, whose teams are the Teddies, and the Roosevelt Library both stand on 28th Avenue South in Standish.
