About Sturtevant
Sturtevant grew up where two Milwaukee Road railroad lines crossed, and it was first called Parkersville, then Western Union Junction, then Corliss. In 1923 it took the name Sturtevant, after a Massachusetts company that opened a factory there. The tracks still matter: Amtrak's Hiawatha trains stop at the village's station, and the Western Union Junction Railroad Museum keeps old Milwaukee Road boxcars, a caboose and signals near the spot where the first depot stood. Today the village of about 6,900 people also has large distribution warehouses along its west side.
