About Theresa
Theresa began with Solomon Juneau, the fur trader who also helped found Milwaukee and became its first mayor. Traveling the trail between Milwaukee and Green Bay, he noticed a Native camping ground on the Rock River, opened a trading post here in 1833, and named it for his mother; he founded the village in 1846, and many of the settlers who followed were German. The village grew with saw and grist mills, hotels, general stores and breweries along the old trail, later the Yellowstone Trail and now Highway 175. Today the 1847 Juneau home is a museum kept by the Theresa Historical Society, and picnics in village parks such as Rivers Edge and Firemen's Park are still a favorite way to spend a day.
