About Warroad
Warroad sits where the Warroad River meets the southwest corner of Lake of the Woods, about seven miles south of Canada. Long before it became a city in 1901 it was one of the largest Ojibwe villages on the lake, and later it grew on commercial fishing, lumber and the railroads. People call it Hockeytown USA, because its high school teams have won many state titles and its players have skated in the NHL and the Olympics. Today neighbors fish for walleye all year, bike the paved trails at Warroad Point Park, catch a show at the new RiverPlace arts center and gather in Allison Park for the holiday tree lighting.
