About Roseau
Roseau sits about ten minutes from the Canadian border and takes its name from the Roseau River, where Ojibwe people harvested wild rice long before settlers came. It got its post office in 1895, the same year it became the county seat of the new Roseau County. The town is famous for hockey: Roseau High School has played in the boys' state tournament more times than any other team, and the 1949 Memorial Arena joined the National Register of Historic Places in 2024. Roseau is also known as the birthplace of the snowmobile industry, and today neighbors gather at the Pioneer Farm and Village for Fall Harvest Fest in October and the Nights of Lights in December.
