This week in Wauwatosa
About Wauwatosa
Wauwatosa began in 1835 when Charles Hart and 17 other families settled in the Menomonee River valley west of Milwaukee. Hart built a mill on the river in 1845, and for a time the place was simply called Hart's Mill. Plank roads and, in 1851, Wisconsin's first railroad ran through here, and the village of 1892 became a city in 1897. Today families picnic along the river at Hart Park and Hoyt Park, walk Harwood Avenue, and gather each September for TosaFest.
