About Wind Point
Wind Point is a small lakeside village on a point of land in Lake Michigan just north of Racine, and it calls itself The Lighthouse Village. Farm families had a schoolhouse here by 1860, and in 1880 the government lit a 108-foot brick lighthouse on the point to warn ships after years of wrecks; it still shines today. In 1937 work began on Wingspread, a pinwheel-shaped house Frank Lloyd Wright designed for H.F. Johnson, and in 1954 neighbors voted to make Wind Point its own village. Today families walk the lighthouse park and beach, which is open every day of the year, climb the tower on open-tower Sundays in summer, and golf at Shoop Park along the shore.
