About Ada
Ada grew from the spring of 1876, when William Shields brought six settlers to this corner of the Red River Valley and put up a grain warehouse to buy farmers' wheat. The post office came the same year, and the town was named in memory of Ada Fisher, the young daughter of a local family. Ada won a long contest with Twin Valley to stay the Norman County seat, and in 1904 it built both a Romanesque courthouse and a brick village hall from the town's own brickyard. Farming still drives the town, and today people gather at the county fairgrounds, the Prairie Village log museum and the Ada Public Library.
