About Amery
Amery grew up on the Apple River in Polk County, and it takes its name from William Amery, a carpenter who held several town offices in the 1870s. In the logging days, timber was floated down the river from camps up north to a sawmill in Amery, where it was cut and loaded onto trains. The town had 451 people in 1890 and about 2,960 by 2020. The Amery Woman's Club started the public library in 1928, and it now sits in the City Center Building on Maple Street. Today families come downtown for the Fall Festival each fall and the Holiday Stroll in December, and bike or walk the Stower Seven Lakes and Cattail state trails.
