About Taylors Falls
Taylors Falls started in 1838 at the head of steamboat travel on the St. Croix River, and it grew by selling supplies and building materials to the logging camps up the valley. Many of its first settlers came from New England, and they built white Greek Revival houses on Angel Hill, like the 1855 home of lumberman W. H. C. Folsom, which is now a museum. In 1886 a log jam two miles long piled up in the narrow rock gorge below town, and for about four weeks tourists came by the trainload to see it. Today families hike the cliffs and glacial potholes of Interstate State Park, paddle the river, and visit the 1852 Town House School and the little library on Bench Street.
