About Chisago City
Chisago City was founded in 1857 by Anders Swenson, a Swedish immigrant from Smaland, and takes its name from Chisago Lake. Many Swedish families settled the lakeshore in the early 1850s. The town first stood one mile south, then moved closer to the railroad when the line bypassed it in 1880. Its motto is Gateway to the Lakes. About 5,558 people lived here in 2020.
