About Osceola
Osceola was founded in 1844 on the bluffs above the St. Croix River, across the water from Minnesota, and it takes its name from Osceola, a leader of the Seminole people. Its downtown along Cascade Street is on the National Register of Historic Places, with brick shops from the 1870s on, and for a while in the 1880s and 1890s an old saloon there served as the Polk County Courthouse. Right in the middle of town, Osceola Creek drops over Cascade Falls, a 25-foot waterfall, and trails lead from downtown to the falls, the river and the bluff. Today families ride the historic train from the 1916 Soo Line depot, visit the library by the mill pond, and come out each September for the free Wheels & Wings car show and air show at the village airport.
