About Ashwaubenon

Ashwaubenon takes its name from Ashwaubomay, a man who came to the Fox River in the 1790s, married the daughter of a Menominee chief, and lived beside the creek that still carries his name. For many years the land along the river was farms, sold off bit by bit by his family, and the village was incorporated in 1979. Today it holds the National Railroad Museum, with giant steam engines and a tall wooden lookout tower over the Fox, the Resch Center arena, and the Titletown park with its winter sledding hill and ice rink. In summer families swim at Ashwaubomay Lake, a sand-beach swimming lake in a riverside park, and bring lawn chairs to free Wednesday lunchtime concerts in the park.
