About Howard

Howard grew up along Duck Creek on Green Bay's northwest side, and for years people simply called the town Duck Creek. The Town of Howard was set up in 1835 and named for General Benjamin Howard, an officer in the War of 1812; it grew as a place for mail, farms, lumber and stone. Its four Duck Creek quarries made it known for building stone until the last one closed in 2002, and Howard became a village in 1959. Today families visit Duck Creek Quarry Park, open all year, start bike rides on the Mountain Bay Trail at Memorial Park, and go sledding on the lighted hill at Meadowbrook Park.
