About Blair
Blair sits on the Trempealeau River in the hills of western Wisconsin, and people first settled here in the 1850s, when the place was called Porterville. In 1873 the Green Bay and Western Railroad came through, and the town was renamed for John Insley Blair, one of the railroad's main investors. That same year a grist mill dam on the river made Lake Henry, named for one of the first settlers, where people later cut ice in winter. Most families trace their roots to Norway, and the churches still hold lefse and lutefisk suppers each year. Today neighbors fish, paddle and camp at Riverside Memorial Park on Lake Henry, and couples marry under the restored bell tower that once stood on the grade school.
