About Braham
Braham grew up around the railroad: the town moved a quarter mile east to sit beside the new tracks and became a village in 1901, with a post office open since 1891. Some say the name comes from the Swedish words for 'good home', while others say railroad officials picked it. The county's first hospital opened here in 1908, and a local group formed in 1935 helped bring electricity to farms in four counties. In the 1930s and 1940s drivers taking the shortcut to Duluth stopped at the Park Cafe for pie, and in 1990 the governor named Braham the Homemade Pie Capital of Minnesota. Every first Friday in August the town still fills up for Pie Day, with music, crafts, games and all kinds of pie.
