About Harris
Harris was first settled in 1870 along the railroad north of the Twin Cities, laid out in 1873, and named for Philip S. Harris, an officer of the St. Paul and Duluth Railroad. Early on it had a hotel, a livery, a few stores and a train station, and a post office opened in 1874. The Sayer House, a big Italianate house and inn from about 1875, still stands and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Today Harris is a town of about 1,100 people near Interstate 35, with a Sunday farmers market, the volunteer-built Goose Creek Walking Trail in Schoolhouse Park, and the Harris Days summer celebration.
