About Cambridge
Cambridge began in the 1850s, when settlers found good timber, farmland and the Rum River. It became the Isanti County seat in 1869 and was incorporated in 1877, with mills along the river and a railroad through town. Many neighbors have Swedish roots, and Cambridge has one of the highest shares of Swedish Americans of any U.S. city over 5,000 people. Today about 9,600 people live here, and the old redbrick courthouse and 1898 country school still stand.
