About Brown Deer
Brown Deer began as farm country in the Town of Granville, where settlers from New England and New York arrived in the 1830s and a small crossroads hamlet grew up in the 1870s. Its one-room schoolhouse from 1884 still stands and is kept as a little school museum by the Brown Deer Historical Society. After World War II, farms turned into neighborhoods, and in 1955 residents made Brown Deer its own village. Today families walk the Ozaukee Interurban Trail, shop the Wednesday farmers market, and gather at Village Park for the Fourth of July fireworks.
