About St. Francis

St. Francis grew up on the Rum River, where Dwight Woodbury built a dam, a mill and the first house in 1855. The river was named for Francis of Assisi back in 1680, and the town took the same name. A big flour mill, a starch plant and a canning factory kept it busy in the late 1800s, and the Woodbury family home became the Riverside Hotel, now the Rum River Inn. These days neighbors gather for Pioneer Days, a yearly celebration that began in 1964.
