About Camden

Camden is the community that fills the upper half of north Minneapolis, from Lowry Avenue up to the city's edge at 53rd Avenue, and from the Mississippi River west to Xerxes Avenue. It is made of seven neighborhoods, including Webber-Camden, Victory, Folwell, McKinley, Cleveland, Lind-Bohanon and Shingle Creek. In 1895 residents of Camden Place asked for a library, and a reading station opened in a drugstore on Washington Avenue North; in 1910 a branch moved into the new park fieldhouse that Charles and Mary Webber paid for in memory of their son. Today the Camden and Lowry Avenue bridges cross the river to Northeast, Victory Memorial Parkway curves along its western edge, and North Mississippi Regional Park follows the riverbank with trails and a nature center. Camden High School, renamed for the community in 2024, sits on Newton Avenue North.
