About Victory
Victory takes its name from Victory Memorial Parkway, which the neighborhood council calls the largest outdoor World War I memorial in the country. Finished in 1921, the three-mile 'Drive' honors Hennepin County service members who died in that war, with a tree and a marker for each one, and a statue of Abraham Lincoln stands on its curve. In the early 1900s the neighborhood was home to many factory and mill workers from north Minneapolis. Today about 4,500 people live here among classic homes, with Victory Park at 44th and Upton, a fenced dog park, and Ryan Lake Park, where volunteers built a fishing pier and trail. Small shopping corners sit at 44th and Penn and 42nd and Thomas.
