About Chisholm
Chisholm is called the Heart of the Iron Range because it sits in the middle of the Mesabi Iron Range. It was named for mining man Archibald Chisholm and incorporated in 1901, and it grew to more than 6,000 people by 1908. That September a fast forest fire destroyed the town, but no one died, and by the next summer more than 70 fireproof buildings had risen. Today neighbors visit the mining museums, walk and bike the Mesabi Trail, and celebrate with Polar Bear Days in winter.
