About Hibbing
Hibbing was laid out in 1893 and named for Frank Hibbing, a prospector who found iron ore here on the Mesabi Range. The town grew around mines so big that the ore ran under the streets, so in 1919 the company began moving the whole downtown two miles south. Hibbing is also where the first bus line began in 1914, which later became Greyhound. Today people visit the huge Hull-Rust-Mahoning mine overlook, the Greyhound Bus Museum and the castle-like high school, and gather downtown for Jubilee each July.
