About Cohasset
Cohasset sits on the Mississippi River right next to Grand Rapids, at the far western end of Minnesota's Iron Range. It took its name from Cohasset, Massachusetts, and has had a post office since 1892. The Army Corps of Engineers built the Pokegama Lake Dam here in 1884 to hold back the Upper Mississippi for flood control, river travel and drinking water, and the dam still forms Pokegama Lake and a chain of other lakes. About a quarter of the city is water, and since 2011 a footbridge on the dam has linked its campground to the river's south side.
