About Eveleth
Eveleth was platted in 1893 and named for Erwin Eveleth, a timber company man. Iron ore was found under the first village site in 1895, so the town moved to its present spot around 1900 and became a city in 1902. Mining shaped life here for most of the 1900s. Eveleth is best known for hockey: it is home to the United States Hockey Hall of Fame and a 107-foot hockey stick, and its high school teams won big in the 1940s and 1950s.
