About Crosby
Crosby was laid out in 1908 by Matt and George Crosby as a mining town on the Cuyuna Iron Range, and the first train load of iron ore left town in 1912. For most of the 1900s the town lived on its mines, and the Soo Line depot from 1910 now holds a museum of mining, logging and everyday life on the range. After mining ended, the old mine lands became the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area in 1993, where people hike and bike along old mine roads. Today Crosby is a town of about 2,400 people beside Serpent Lake, with its own public library at the heart of town.
