About Dayton
Settlers came to the bend where the Crow River meets the Mississippi in 1851, and the town was platted in 1855. It is named for Lyman Dayton, a land developer who helped bring a railroad toward Lake Superior. Dayton is the northernmost city in Hennepin County, and about a third of it is Elm Creek Park Reserve. Neighbors now gather for the city's Halloween pumpkin trail, a Turkey Trot 5K in November and a holiday celebration in December.
