About Deephaven

Deephaven began as a summer retreat on Lake Minnetonka. A St. Louis lawyer, Charles Gibson, built a summer house here in the 1870s and then a grand hotel in 1879, and the Minnetonka Yacht Club started in 1882. The name comes from the train stop built near the Burton family home. Neighbors voted in 1900 to leave Excelsior and form their own village. Today it is a quiet lakeside city of about 3,900 people with six public beaches, two marinas, and the Cottagewood General Store, open since 1895.
