About Wayzata

Wayzata sits on the north shore of Lake Minnetonka, and its name comes from a Dakota word for the north or the north shore. The town was platted in 1854 and grew when the railroad arrived in 1867, bringing visitors who rode steamboats out onto the lake. James J. Hill's railway built the Tudor-style depot beside the water in 1906, and it still stands downtown. Today people shop and eat along Lake Street, walk the beach, and come out for festivals all year.
