About Hopkins

The first settlers reached the Hopkins area in 1852, and the town grew after 1887, when a farm-machine factory opened and houses went up for its workers. For years it was called West Minneapolis, until 1928, when it took the name Hopkins from Harley Hopkins, an early homesteader and its first postmaster who let the train depot stand on his land. Since the 1930s the town has held a Raspberry Festival every July, with a parade, music and a craft fair. Today its old Main Street is on the National Register of Historic Places, and the old depot is a coffee house.
