About Dousman
Dousman grew up along the Chicago and North Western railroad and was founded in 1881, named for Talbot C. Dousman, a local farmer and businessman who helped bring the tracks through; a post office by that name had opened back in 1856. For a while people called the stop 'Bullfrog Station' for all the bullfrogs in the wet ground around it, and the frogs stuck: the town baseball team is still the Dousman Frogs. Today the old railroad bed is the Glacial Drumlin State Trail, which runs right through downtown, so families bike and walk it in summer and snowmobilers ride it in winter. The Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest is just a few miles south. Every July the whole village fills Cory Park for Derby Days and the Wisconsin State Frog Jump.
