About Summit

Summit began in the spring of 1837, when Andrew Baxter became its first settler, and by 1840 about 335 people lived on its 36 square miles. The first church in the town went up in 1842 at Nashotah Mission, and St. Mary's Church has stood on highways 67 and 18 since 1871. After almost 170 years as a town, Summit voted to become a village and made it official on July 29, 2010. Today it is a quiet, rural corner of Waukesha County's lake country along Interstate 94, with state parks close by and its own spots outdoors: the Henrietta Lake boardwalk in Waterville, Genesee Lake Road Park and Peter Prime Park, and the dams along the Bark River.
