About Wales
Wales was settled by immigrants from Wales in 1840, and by 1842 there were 99 people living here. Singing was at the heart of the place: singing schools opened, and a big Welsh songfest called a Gymanfa Ganu began in 1875. When the railroad came through in 1881 and 1882, the post office moved to the spot that officially became known as Wales, and the village became its own government in 1922. The red dragon of the Welsh flag is still the village's logo. Today families fill the baseball diamonds, soccer fields and disc golf course at Wales Community Park, and bikers and walkers pass through on the Glacial Drumlin State Trail.
