About Eagle
Eagle got its name in 1836, when three explorers crossing the prairie saw a huge bald eagle circling overhead, and the first settlers built a house here that same year. When the railroad came through in 1851, a new village called Eagle Centre grew up beside it, and by 1880 it was one of the busiest trading towns in Waukesha County. In 1876, men digging a well on the hill where the smiley-face water tower stands now found a yellow pebble that turned out to be one of the largest glacial diamonds ever found in the United States. Today Eagle sits at the edge of the Kettle Moraine State Forest's Southern Unit, near Old World Wisconsin, and families turn out for the historical society's Pumpkin Party each fall.
