About Palmyra
Palmyra sits in the Scuppernong River valley at the edge of the Kettle Moraine. Its first settler came in 1839, and the Powers brothers, who built a sawmill a few years later, named it after the ancient desert city of Palmyra because of all the sand they found. In the 1800s the village was known for its mineral springs, and a grand brick sanitarium once stood by Lower Spring Lake. Today families swim at the Lower Spring Lake beach, walk the nature trail at Aurelian Springs Park, borrow books at the 1927 Powers Memorial Library, and line Main Street for the Lions Club Christmas parade each December.
