About Eden Prairie
Eden Prairie sits on the north bank of the Minnesota River and was named Eden in 1853 by writer Elizabeth Ellet for its beautiful prairie. Farmers settled after an 1851 treaty, and the town board held its first meeting on May 11, 1858, the same day Minnesota became a state. It stayed a quiet farm town until highways and the Eden Prairie Center mall arrived in the 1970s. Today it is known for more than 170 miles of trails, lakes like Staring Lake and Round Lake, Purgatory Creek Park and its big high school.
