About Edgar
Edgar was laid out by the railroad in 1891 and named for William Edgar, who owned land and a sawmill nearby. In 1917 the village built a brick hall that held the village offices, the fire department and the jail, with an upstairs auditorium where people came for plays, dances, wedding receptions and basketball games. Books first came to town in 1928 through the Edgar Women's Club, and today the village's branch of the county library sits in the remodeled old Edgar Bank. Edgar has been a Tree City USA since 1995, and its school district serves students from preschool through grade 12.
