About Foley
Foley began as a logging camp and steam sawmill set up by four Foley brothers from Ontario, who cut the area's white oak for the Great Northern Railroad, which reached the camp in 1882. The village was laid out in 1898, and when the big timber ran out, John Foley gave land for mills that made wooden staves for pails, barrels and boxes. In 1901 voters moved the Benton County seat here from Sauk Rapids, and the oak country around town turned into dairy farms. Today Foley is a small county seat east of St. Cloud, where families gather each June for Foley Fun Days and its evening parade.
