About Fox Point
Fox Point is named for a point of land on Lake Michigan that early surveyors thought looked like a fox's snout, at the spot that is now Doctors Park. Dutch farm families settled here in the 1840s and built one-room schoolhouses, and later wealthy Milwaukee families came by train and streetcar to build summer homes by the lake. In 1926 residents formed their own village so they could have running water, electricity and garbage pickup, and they started a school district the next year. Today it is a quiet, leafy North Shore suburb where families walk the ravine trail at Doctors Park down to the Lake Michigan beach.
