About Grafton

Grafton began around 1839 as a mill town on the Milwaukee River, settled by German and Irish families who first called it Hamburg. Farmers built the Grafton Flour Mill in 1846, and for decades the town also burned limestone into lime in big kilns, three of which still stand in Lime Kiln Park. From 1929 to 1932 blues greats traveled north to record for Paramount Records here, which puts Grafton on the Mississippi Blues Trail. Today families walk the river at Veterans Memorial Park, bike the Ozaukee Interurban Trail and gather downtown at Paramount Plaza for summer music and the fall festival.
