About Hales Corners

Hales Corners began in 1837, when Seneca and William Hale claimed land where Janesville Road meets today's Highway 100, and their family soon held three of the four corners. William became the first postmaster, and the place was called Hale's Corners until the apostrophe fell away. For decades farmers came to its stock fair to trade pigs, cattle and sheep along the old plank road to Milwaukee. Today it is a small village of tree-lined neighborhoods next to Whitnall Park and Boerner Botanical Gardens, and families gather each Fourth of July for two parades, a run and bed races.
