About Ham Lake
Ham Lake takes its name from a lake shaped like a ham. A group of settlers platted a town called Glen Carey here in 1856, but a prairie fire burned the houses the next year. Norwegian and Swedish farmers came back from 1866 and grew dairy products and potatoes, and the township formed in 1871. Ham Lake became a city on January 8, 1974. Today it is a Highway 65 community of parks, ball fields and small-town events at Lions Park.
