About Lakeville
Lakeville began in 1855, when a Saint Paul businessman platted a village on a lake halfway between Saint Paul and Saint Peter. Farmers, many from Scandinavia, settled the land, and in 1910 Marion Savage opened Antlers Amusement Park on the lake, which was renamed Lake Marion, linked by the Dan Patch rail line. Lakeville became a city in 1967 and has grown into the biggest city in Dakota County. Today people know it for Pan-O-Prog each July, its park beaches and two big high schools.
