About Loyal
Loyal got its name in the 1860s, when so many of its pioneer settlers went off to fight in the Civil War. A store opened here in 1870, the town was laid out in 1885, and it grew into a village in 1893 and a city in 1948, serving the farms around it in Clark County. The Loyal Area Historical Society keeps a copy of the old Soo Line depot and a 1940s Main Street gas station on Highway 98 at the east edge of town, filled with photos and old quilts. Its biggest event is the Loyal Corn Fest each August, and the year also brings fireworks at West Side Park in July and Home For Christmas at the historical society in December.
